The Dinky Express Horse Box #581 was introduced as early as 1953 and subsequently renumbered twice in 1954 to #980 and #981. The body colour was mainly available in a maroon finish with maroon hubs and early versions used grey rubber tires before switching to black tires. There was also a two-tone yellow and grey body version issued near the end of the production run. Various inscriptions and logos from “British Railways”, “Express House Box” and “Hire Service” were interchangeable. There was also a side and rear door that could open and close. This model was issued as a Dinky “SUPERTOYS”.
Model #581 was issued between 1953-54 and Model #980/981 was issued between 1954-60.
