The Austin Taxi was introduced in 1952 and subsequently renumbered to 254 in 1954 as the Austin FX3 Taxi.
The 40h came in solid yellow, two-tone yellow/green or blue with ridged hubs.
The newer models came in black with spun hubs.
These models varied in showing a model number on the baseplate.
Model #40h was issued between 1952-54 and Model #254 was issued between 1956-59.
